MY OLD MAN AND THE SEA

As a Cornishman Matt has an innate connection to the sea. He is drawn to its romantic charm as well as respectful of its brutal power. This body of work pays homage to his father who left home at the age of 14 to go to sea, as well as his father in law who spent his formative years working in the boatyards on the Essex coast. Using marine corrosion as a metaphor for the ageing process and mortality, these paintings celebrate the beauty in decay
