Matt has previously worked as an art teacher at a Sixth Form College and an Institute of Further and Higher Education teaching GCSE, AS, A Level, HND, Art Foundation and Degree.
He has undertaken a number of Artist in Residence programmes. These have included family centres, a hospital, a Romanian orphanage and galleries, as well as educational establishments ranging from primary schools through to Sixth Form Colleges. He regularly works in both primary and secondary schools with children across all age groups.
Matt has been designing and running art workshops for adults and children of all abilities and from a diverse social and ethnic background for nearly 30 years, covering a number of themes. Workshops are carefully planned to meet the needs of those participating and are delivered to both individuals and groups. His natural style is interactive, energetic and passionate although he recognises that at times a quiet, calm approach is required.
As an Artist in Residence Matt delivers high quality bespoke workshops and learning programmes centred around art that complement the ongoing project work at schools and/or the curriculum requirements. These are well researched, diligently planned and passionately delivered to a level that suits the school’s requirements.
Matt has excellent communication skills and recognises the need to change his approach to meet individual needs. He inspires others to explore their own artistic language or to discover art as a form of therapy or cathartic release.
Matt subscribes to the view best expressed by the writer Kurt Vonnegurt, “Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow“.
